South African Builder – April 2012

Bitcon Industries, a leading producer of fire and security doors, has been contracted to supply fire doors to several Netcare hospitals throughout South Africa.

The doors, supplied in both single and double format, were specified by Quantity Surveyors, Mbatha Walters & Simpson, after Netcare had selected Bitcon as its preferred supplier.

Bob Vollmer, director of Bitcon, says “The importance of installing tried and trusted fire doors is particularly important in hospital situations with immobile patients potentially facing a fire threat. This is one area where reputation counts and corners simply cannot be cut.

Bitcon will also be supplying Rubidor fire doors to Grinaker-LTA for installation at Nestlé’s new multi-million noodle and cereal production facility at Babelegi, 60km north of Pretoria. “The single and double hinged doors will have a Chromadek finish, framed in stainless steel,” he explained.

The company is also supplying fire doors for the new 50 000 m2 Newcastle Mall in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Rubidor Class A, B, and D hinged fire doors meet the requirements of the South African National Test Standard, SANS 1253:2003. The doors’ cores are constructed from a magnesium oxychloride monolithic-reinforced, insulative material with excellent fire resistance and mechanical strength.

Compliance with the National Test Standard is based on successful tests for stability, integrity, insulation and impact resistance.
